Idemitsu Kosan establishes OLED materials manufacturing facility in South Korea

Rapid expansion of OLED display and lighting drives the need for increased local production of materials

24 Oct 2011 | editor

Idemitsu Kosan has announced the company is to establish an OLED materials manufacturing company in South Korea to strengthen the supply-chain for the further expansion in OLED display and lighting markets.

The company is currently in the process of selecting a suitable location to establish the OLED materials manufacturing plant, with the aim to have the facility operational during 2012. The new plant will supply OLED materials in South Korea, and also provide additional supply to Japan, Taiwan, Europe and other countries.

The OLED display and lighting markets have experienced rapid expansion as they progress towards early commercialisation. In order to maintain a stable supply for customers in Japan, Korea and elsewhere Idemitsu Kosan believes it is necessary to commit to increasing production capacity by establishing production bases outside of Japan.

The company started developing light-emitting materials for OLED in 1985 and completed a manufacturing plant in Omaezaki, Shizuoka in April 2007, where a development-to-manufacturing/marketing integrated production system was established to supply OLED materials at home and abroad.
